Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), who had a central role in the health reform fight as the leader of anti-abortion Democrats, plans to announce Friday that he will not run for reelection, a Democratic official said. Without Stupak on the ballot, the seat becomes an immediate pickup opportunity for Republicans.

Democrats dragged themselves over the health-care finish line in part by repeating that voters would like the plan once it passed. Let’s see what they think when they learn their insurance costs will jump right away.
Even before President Obama signed the bill on Tuesday, Caterpillar said it would cost the company at least $100 million more in the first year alone. Medical device maker Medtronic warned that new taxes on its products could force it to lay off a thousand workers. Now Verizon joins the roll of businesses staring at adverse consequences.
In an email titled “President Obama Signs Health Care Legislation” sent to all employees Tuesday night, the telecom giant warned that “we expect that Verizon’s costs will increase in the short term.” While executive vice president for human resources Marc Reed wrote that “it is difficult at this point to gauge the precise impact of this legislation,” and that ObamaCare does reflect some of the company’s policy priorities, the message to workers was clear: Expect changes for the worse to your health benefits as the direct result of this bill, and maybe as soon as this year.

Businesses around the country are making the same calculations as Verizon and no doubt sending out similar messages. It’s only a small measure of the destruction that will be churned out by the rewrite of health, tax, labor and welfare laws that is ObamaCare, and only the vanguard of much worse to come.

Asked if insurance companies might raise their rates on health coverage and blame the increases on the new health-care bill, Pelosi said that the insurance companies should be aware that they’re not “automatically included” in the new health exchanges the bill creates.
“Unless they do the right thing, they’re not going in,” she said. “They will be relinquishing the possibility of having taxpayer-subsidized consumers in the exchange,” she said.
The insurance companies will have no choice but to raise rates due to all of the mandates put in place. One by one the libs will kick out insurance companies from the exchanges until there is only one left………
Hmmmmmm……. I wonder which “insurance company” that will be.

It was quite obvious, yesterday, that the republicans knew more about the democrats health crap bill than the democrats did. I heard the republicans bring up facts using the dems own bill and all the dems had to offer was anecdotes. The democrats were schooled yesterday and you could tell by the reaction of the president and the democrats at the summit.

Pelosi tells C-SPAN: ‘There has never been a more open process’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) defended Congress’ work on a healthcare bill Tuesday saying the process has displayed historic transparency, just as C-SPAN mounts an effort to open the negotiations.
C-SPAN wrote a letter to congressional leaders Tuesday asking that TV cameras be allowed to film negotiations to reconcile the House and Senate versions of healthcare reform legislation.
But Pelosi said Congress has already been transparent throughout the process.
“There has never been a more open process for any legislation,” Pelosi said at a press conference.
If Nancy’s nose could actually grow when she tells a lie, she wouldn’t need a new plane to fly home to Frisco…… She could just pole vault herself home……
The only people this process is open to are the people behind the closed doors and they ain’t talkin’
The democrats in the senate gave the United States a Christmas gift that the vast majority of Americans don’t want……. Can we have a receipt for this cause I think we’re gonna want to return it after an election or two…….
A majority of Americans didn’t want this healthcare bill but it didn’t matter. Sen Harry Reid bought the votes he needed to pass this POS. So much for integrity. So much for an oath to protect the Constitution. So much for constituency.
When this POS passes on Christmas Eve and is then reconciled with the House version….. It’s yours.
When this leads to a public option….. It’s yours.
When it fails, and it will, it’s yours.
When the debt this legislation creates goes spiraling out of control…… It’s yours.
I’m not going to say I told ya so now but that day will come…..
My only hope is that the right can do something about this after they take the elections in 2010 and 2012.
This country has been around for over 200 years. We’ve lived with out this supposed health crap legislation, that isn’t even written and is only in the head (I didn’t say brain) of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, for the entire life of this nation thus far.
If this bill is so wonderful, What’s the hurry?

JSOnline is reporting that Wisconsin’s own version of Obamacare is in big trouble….
The state may be forced to cut more than $1 billion over the next 18 months from BadgerCare Plus and other health care programs for the disabled, elderly and low-income families.
The shortfall comes at a time when more people are turning to BadgerCare Plus because of the state’s battered economy. About 700,000 people were enrolled in BadgerCare Plus alone on Nov. 30, an increase of more than 70,000 since the start of the year. At the same time, state tax revenues have plummeted because of the economic downturn.
Since April, the Department of Health Services has been working on a plan to find an estimated $608 million over two years from an array of cost-saving moves, including rewriting contracts, increasing the use of generic drugs, reducing hospital and pharmacy reimbursements and delaying payments.
I know this program was started by Thompson but it was expanded exponentially by Doyle. This is Doyle’s baby now and is no different than Obamacare and the problems that Obamacare will face if passed.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid took his GOP-blasting rhetoric to a new level Monday, comparing Republicans who oppose health care reform to lawmakers who clung to the institution of slavery more than a century ago.
